Can You Hear the Buzz?

“Nothing is so like a soul as a bee.
It goes from flower to flower as a soul from star to star,
and it gathers honey as a soul gathers light.”
Victor Hugo  ‘Ninety-Three’, 1879
I was walking the neighborhood Saturday morning on an uncommonly nice, warm day. Oh, the joy of sunshine and azure skies!
Here in the Pacific Northwest we have been blanketed and buried in gray days of drizzle for months unending. It can be a punishing climate to the faint of heart, but OH, on a clear, sunny day, it is truly the most beautiful place on earth.
As I rambled along through the neighborhood I heard a tree nearby.
Yes, heard a tree.
Why?  It’s gauzy, blowy white branches were beleagured with bees.
Very busy bees–their hum and buzz rose and fell as they visited the showy blossoms in their light-filled dance.
I stopped to get a closer look and noticed their fervent focus–intent on nectar gathering, concentrating on sweet sustenance, they ignored me completely as I moved in tight.
They had a job to do. A God-ordained job to do.
I’ve been reading through the 22 sections of Psalm 119 this year and meditating on the power and importance of being in God’s word.
Psalm 119
102 “I have not departed from your laws,
for you yourself have taught me.
103 How sweet are your words to my taste,
sweeter than honey to my mouth!”

This seemed the perfect picture reminder to me from my Father–
keep seeking the sweetness of my word.
Find your sustenance in the nectar that brings you life.
Be diligent, focused, purposeful–there is honey in The Rock for you.
